An Old Politican and A Teen Queen 13 comments

The first feature film I was involved with, Queen Bee, has been released for public starting today. As one of the crews, I’ve been given the privilege to watch the gala premiere on Tuesday night and bring a friend. I decided to “bring” Aqi to come with me, I am sure he’d love cocktail parties and will meet his friends. Too bad he was late! So we didn’t take any picture, unfortunately. Thank God I met Diana and Dipy way long before he came. He arrived on around 9 pm, and the movie was suppose to start at 9.10!
G2000 dress, mum’s brown belt, Tonik vinyls bag, Kulkith shoes – with Diana!
So, how was the movie?
“Chants of Lotus” Premiere no comments
Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes
I had just got home from the premiere of “Chants of Lotus” (a.k.a. “Lotus Requiem”). Yesterday, there were 2 persons who invited me to attend 2 different screenings. A friend named Idenk invited me to watch “Across The Universe” in Djakarta Theatre at 9 AM while my auntie Sonya asked me to accompany her to the premiere of “Chants of Lotus” at 10.30 AM. I decided to please my auntie and uncle because I had to go to “pick-up” my report book (nice grades, btw ;p).
So I took TransJakarta from school, got off on Tosari and then walked on foot straight to Blitz Megaplex. And when I arrived at the venue… Oh my God! It was not just another movie screening. It was the official premiere of “Chants of Lotus”. I met Nia Dinata (director), Rima Melati, Ira Duaty, Ira Duaty, Rachel Maryam & fam, Susan Bachtiar, Rieke Dyah Pitaloka, Shanty, Kirana Larasati, Indy Barends, countless important and famous people on the scene… So many women there? Yes, it was the celebration of Mother’s Day (Happy Mother’s Day, dear Mommy!).
I’m not going to write about the movie, because this is a blog-post, not another movie review : ) Maybe I’ll write about it later… After the movie screening, we were invited to dine in Warung Kopi, Alun-alun Indonesia. Woo hoo, what a wonderful day! :)

The ceremony actually started on 3 PM, there were a small exhibiton and costume players’ performances. I decided to depart late because I only wanted to watch the movie screening, which began at 6 PM. I only watched 2 (of 3) terms though.

Movie Highlights
Semua karya menunjukkan betapa majunya Indonesia dalam produksi sinematografi, terutama di bidang animasi (lebih banyak karya animasi yang ditampilkan). These are my favourites, anyway:
- KWEK - a three-dimensional animation by Aneka Pixel, which sets somewhere in Java. The plot is about the struggling of three rubber ducks to get together. It really pumped our adrenaline hormone when one of the rubberducks almost slid into the water closet and it felt as if we were watching “Mission Impossible” when they were trying to save each other, although we only hear “quack, quack, and quack” and understand nothing. I think the creators want us to realize that “even rubber ducks have such solidarity, why not us?”. Salute for the creators who were able to ‘re-draw’ a simple things into an incredible story. This 10-minutes animation is even better than Disney’s “Toy Story”.
- POSITIF+ – I had watched this movie in JiFFest 2006. At the beginning, it felt like watching sinetrons, where Dara (Risty Tagor) had just figured out that she was pregnant (of course she wasn’t married yet!). She tried to tell her parents (Bucek Depp, Unique Priscilla), who were busy famous celebrities. The act of their parents were very annoying, in a hilarious way. Yang lebih hilarious lagi was how they react to Dara’s condition (which was far, far from any sinetron in Indonesia). Thumbs up!
- ZSA ZSA ZSU – A music video created by Traumarama for RNRM (Rock N’ Roll Mafia), which used 1500 frames and more than 12 kilograms of colourful buttons to make this awesome stop-motion video. They drew nothing, they just assembled the buttons into pictures where RNRM were performing. INGENIOUS! Ini baru namanya karya orisinil, sederhana, nggak main-main sekaligus luar biasa.
- FREE ME – A stop-motion work from Epica, it tells us about a girl in a picture who was trying to get out of the frame. Cara bertuturnya sederhana, animasinya juga nggak luar biasa. But somehow, I really, really enjoyed watching the movie.
- There’s one more, but (sorry,) I forgot the title. Love the tag-line: “Mimpi adalah cita-cita. Meraih cita-cita bukanlah mimpi.”

Today, Anggie Setia (senior advisor of The Cure For Tomorrow) and I went to Usmar Ismail Hall, Kuningan. Yesterday she contacted me: “Hey, I’ve got a good news for you. I have 2 tickets…” I wasn’t aware enough about the event, but then, I decided to go (though I had to miss the match between Indonesia and the Korea Republic) because it really sounded interesting.
So, I took off from school to Pasar Festival, our meeting point. And then, we walked to the venue. I was in a bit of doubt at first, because in the front of the venue there were no banners at all about the event. When we got inside, we were instantly welcomed by a few environmental-friendly corporations’ stands such as WWF, Equinox Publishing (the one who held this event), XS, Aksara Bookstore, etc. It was cool. The mineral water was even served in the old packaging (bottles made of glass). They exhibited solar energy technology and led lighting too. There were banners with earthy messages everywhere, like “Plant A Tree”, “Save Ink and Paper”, “Use Recycled Papers”… And I got:
- Tas kain Aksara Goes Green (Rp10.000,-)
- 1 rim of CyclusOffice recycled paper (Rp55.000,-)
- WWF “Reuse, Refill, Reduce, Recycle” pins (for free)
- WWF “Power Switch” keychain with facts about energy and global warming (for free)
- Pictures!
- A wonderful experience! Why?
If you have seen David Guggenheim’s “An Inconvenient Truth“, this is not the movie screening. This is the live presentation! There was an expatriate who lives in Bali, named Emerald Starr. He was ordered by Al Gore himself to present about global warming phenomenon in South East Asia. He came all the way to Jakarta for this event.
Marvelous! Unfortunately, although the tickets were given for free (by the internet), the seats were not fully equipped. The presentation room looked like a cinema studio/hall, like in 21 Cineplex. So the venue was cozy enough.
The presentation was better than the one which was used by Al Gore in the movie, because WWF added more about Indonesia (especially the deforestation issue). One thing which was too bad: I was the only high school student who went there.
